Sales at the nearly 6-year-old company have doubled ycar-ovcr-ycar since it signed a deal to become a major supplier of rugby and soccer merchandise in Amazon.corn’s new sporting goods store.
Already one of Birmingham’s mbt largest dot-coms, 365 doubled its payroll to 22 employees during the same period, many of them devoted exclusively to filling and supporting orders placed through Amazon.
In fact, growth has been so rapid that 365 has taken over the 5,000-s(|iiare-foot building formerly occupied by Octigon LLC next door to its Sixth Avenue South headquarters just to keep up, effectively doubling its office and warehouse space. Octigon, mbt shoes run by Frei’s longtime friend James Smith, was acquired last month by Hoover’s SunGard Workflow Solutions.
“We’re breaking all our sales records,” Frei says, “and a big chunk of that is due to Amazon. We’re adding two more customer service jobs in the coming three months, and more warehouse stall* before the Christmas period. mbt shoes discontinued We’re bringing on a new marketing manager in a month. We needed the space: we’re so cramped here.”
“We’ve been really pleased with the success of the store out of the gate,” says Amazon senior product manager Jay Marine. “We have a little over 300 retailers now. 365 was with us from the beginning, and they offer a tremendous product selection.”
365’s top brands include Adidas, Nike, Puma, Reebok and Umbra. Most merchandise is stored in Birmingham: about three-quarters of the company’s 10.000 square feet are devoted to warehousing.
Frei, a native of the United Kingdom, reebok easytone says even 365’s expanded space won’t be enough for long, especially as the company diversifies into new areas such as motorsports and cricket.
“We’re actually going to be looking for some much bigger space for the whole operation at the start of next year,” Frei says. “But we’ll definitely stay downtow n. We like being minutes from UPS and FedEx’s local hubs.”
