Blog:Torch relay for Asiad trimmed to save money

Hot News — Tags: , — admin @ 10:45 pm

GUANGZHOU – In a bid to reduce operational costs, organizers of the 16th Asian Games said the torchghd    ghd hair straighteners  relay will only be held within Guangdong province.

The torch relay, an important lead-up to the Games, will travel to 21 cities within the province from October, Gu Shiyang, deputy general secretary of the Games’ organizing committee, said yesterday.

The Games will be held in Guangzhou, the provincial capital city, from Nov 12-27.

Organizers also revealed the final design of the torch. It has been named “the tide” and was selected from  ghd straighteners   ghd dozens of candidates by more than 70 percent of about 126,000 netizen voters on the Games’ official website.

“We are keeping to a principle of holding the Games with less expenditure. As a result, the torch will not travel across Asia and other parts of the nation,” Gu said.

Organizers have already staged a one-year promotion, the Asian Roads, which traversed land and sea routes across 37   ghd straighteners  Asian countries and regions and began in Nov 2008.

Additionally, another promotional event, the China Tour of Asian Games, was also held in major Chinese cities last year.

“Previous promotional events have concluded with sound results in Asia and within the country. So we don’t think it is necessary   ghd hair straighteners  MBT  to hold another promotional event, like the torch relay,” Gu said.

Blog:Modern public baths emphasize socializing and relaxing

Hot News — Tags: — admin @ 10:31 pm

Even just a few decades ago, ghd for most Beijingers taking a bath was a luxurious activity that only happened on special occasions.

Now both men and women enjoy going to public baths not only to get clean but also to socialize with business partners, meet with friends or simply relax.

The modern public baths no longer exists just to satisfy people’s basic washing needs, they are a leisure choice and more like bathing complexes,  ghd straighteners  as they include such facilities as restaurants and hotels.

According to the statistics from the Beijing Bath Trade Association (BBTA), the city currently has around 2,000 establishments committed to the bathing industry, out of which 800 are high-class bathing complexes.

He Peiyun, MBT shoes  the vice chairwoman of BBTA pointed out that the main characteristic feature of the modern bathing industry is “one-stop service”.

“You can eat there and sleep there. If you get bored, you can relax in a hot spring, surf on the Internet or watch a movie,” He said.

Nowadays, most modern bathing complexes open   ghd hair straighteners 24 hours a day, and are equipped with continuous buffets, and the variety of actual bathing facilities are becoming increasingly varied.

The facilities include hot springs at different temperatures, milk pools, coffee pools, and pools with Chinese medicines specially designed for people’s special needs.

The size of ghd straighteners  these high-class bathing complexes is huge.

Most of them are 7,000 to 8,000 sq m and their prices ranged from 80 yuan to 300 yuan per person.

“Most of the high-class bathing complexes target high-class customers.

As many as 60 percent of our clients are business people,” He told METRO.

Reflecting this, she said that, “Most of the bathing complexes are now equipped with conference rooms.

They are perfect to hold business events. After a meeting, people can have dinner there and if they get drunk or tired, they can stay at the hotels or take a ghd bath to get relaxed.”

The bath industry in Beijing generates 100 million yuan every year, and there are around 100 million customers annually.

Wang Guihai, the marketing manager of the Hot Club in Fengtai district, also believes one-stop service is the key to the modern industry’s success.

“People need a place to hang out, to have dinners, to rest and to relax. Now you can have them all in one place, why waste time and traffic to go to different places?” Wang said.

Su Yan, a white collar who often visits No 9 Hot Spring at weekends, said the bathing experience is the most relaxing she has ever had.

“The city life can be tough,”she said.

“It is nice to spoil myself with a hot bath and a  ghd hair straighteners  relaxing massage.”

Blog: Sports brand’s futuristic look

Hot News — Tags: , — admin @ 7:42 pm

When Beijing shopper Qian ghd Jiatun recently visited the adidas Flagship Store in Sanlitun Village, Beijing, he found people dressed like Darth Vader and Stormtrooper striking poses for the visitors.

On the same day, Huang Chuyang and his friends were screaming in the shop Source in Shanghai. They claimed Stormtroopers were invading the city. It was, actually, a Star Wars fans party with free beer and snacks.

Three days later, Hong Kong’s Adam Lee was  ghd straighteners  taken aback to see three Darth Vaders and four Stormtroopers having dinner in a restaurant near his apartment – and walked over for a closer look.

It turned out the trigger for all of this was the Star Wars inspired adidas Originals 2010 Spring Summer Collection. The collection offers five styles of shoes and three types of T-shirts, printed with classic scenes of Lightsaber Duels, Darth Vader, Skywalker, Stormtrooper, and Yoda.

Huang, holding his “Superskate Mid Stormtrooper” ghd hair straighteners shoes, says they are clearly inspired by Stormtrooper’s white armor. On the other hand, Qian’s T-shirt is more evil, with black shades and red dots, the pattern takes its cue from Darth Vader.

Wu Wei, fashion editor of China’s Esquire, feels the collection’s futuristic look will catch on this spring. He points to the latest collection of Cerruti 1881, a high-end luxury Milan-based brand of clothing and fragrances founded by Nino Cerruti, MBT shoes mentor of Giorgio Armani. Its suits and trousers in silver and white, with checked patterns and slim cuts, retain the brand’s high-end style.

This is also true of Kent & Curwen’s blazers, shirts, polo shirts and sports jackets, he adds. Kent & Curwen was founded in 1926 in London, and started off with ties, providing services only to the army and to the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge.

Their latest collection is inspired by British nobility, ghd the Houses of Windsor, Spencer, Westminster and Devonshire.

While the main color is navy blue, there are also some grays and sky-blues. Suits and jackets come with checked patterns that create a shadow effect.

The men’s blazers that come with a modern cut are more fitted than tradition dictates. The cardigan in fine gauge wool also has some cashmere, ghd hair straighteners making for a unique combination.

“The year 2010 marks the beginning of a new decade. The fashion industry is trying to leverage this new beginning to the idea of futurism,” Wu believes.

He, however, finds the style cold and lacking a human touch.

“Futurism represents knowledge, distance and ghd straighteners sometimes nobility. I think ‘cool’ is the best word to describe it.

“Although the Star Wars collection is also sportswear, it is still in the high-end range. These products, with Star Wars patterns, will appeal to people who like to appear distant,” he says.

The curtain comes down on ghd the Vancouver Winter Olympics today and China’s ladies and men of the snow and ice can take a bow for doing their nation proud. The team in red claimed a national record 11 Winter Games medals, including five of the most prized hue.

If you want to rank countries by medals won, that tally puts China equal eighth with France overall. If your benchmark is golds won, then the ghd hair straighteners country’s handful sets it in a tie with Sweden in seventh place.

For a nation with no great degree of winter sports pedigree, this marks a substantial achievement and advancement and places China among MBT  the best, if not the elite, in games people play when the temperature drops.

Now, the trick for the Chinese sports authorities and athletes is to maintain and build on this Vancouver momentum and realize even greater performances at Sochi, Russia, four years from now.

That will be easier said than done and the  ghd hair straighteners country faces three major obstacles it must overcome if it wishes to join or even near the world’s winter heavyweights, the US, Germany, Canada and Norway.

Firstly, the retirements of the gold and silver medallists in figure skating pairs, the 2006 men’s aerials champion Han Xiaopeng, women’s aerials silver medalist Li Nana, veteran biathlete Liu Xianying, the three most experienced members of the women’s ice hockey team and a host of others means some sports are going to have to go into serious rebuilding ghd straighteners mode.

Secondly, the male athletes have to start catching up with their female counterparts. China’s women had a hand in all five of the nation’s golds. Zhao Hongbo was the only male to stand on the highest podium after claiming long-sought-after ghd Olympic figure skating glory with his wife, Shen Xue.

Thirdly, China needs to expand its Winter Games focus. Outside of figure skating, short-track speed skating, freestyle skiing, snowboarding and, if you wish, curling, the country is either weak or a non-factor in most other events.

Of course, that won’t happen overnight, ghd straighteners or even four years hence, but if China wants to be a legitimate power at both the Summer and Winter Games, the building must start from now. After Vancouver, the foundation has been laid.

Army administratorghd Wang Zirui spends her spare time traversing the country, looking for folk art that she houses in a Beijing museum she founded. Zhao Xu reports

Five years have passed, but Wang Zirui still feels the impulse to lick her lips when she recalls walking for three hours on the sun-baked Yellow Earth Plateau of Shaanxi province.

“The sun was searingly hot,” she says. “We walked until I had no strength left to ask: ‘How far do we still have to go?’”

Wang was encouraged by her companion who, judging by the wrinkles in her face, was about 40 years her senior.

“This old lady didn’t show any sign of exhaustion,” Wang says. “She was the most celebrated paper-cutting artist in the area, and I was following her all the way from the county museum, where she temporarily worked, to her home on the wind-whipped bank of the plateau.”

The Beijing army administrator has ghd hair straighteners spent nearly all her spare time crossing the country to find hidden folk-art treasures.

“I would take a weekend night train to whatever place I intended to go and get back to work on Monday morning,” she says.

For the past 19 years, Wang has visited 83 counties in 25 provinces for “the most authentic and indigenous” forms of Chinese folk art.

“Only when I saw these people at one with what they did against a bucolic, totally unspoiled background, did I realize where my roots lay,” she says.

In 2002, during a business trip to Shaanxi, Wang managed to steal some time to look around for artifacts. After a bumpy car ride, she found herself standing in the middle of local artist Li Jiyou’s home, with all four walls covered by painted masks.

“I didn’t know exactly what they were, and I didn’t have much time for much thought. The sight of them sent my heart racing,” she says.

It turned out the masks, hand-painted on the  ghd straighteners cross-sections of tree trunks, used to be worn by worshippers dancing around huge bonfires during their annual celebration of the “God of Earth”. These days, they are simply hung on walls to fend off evil spirits.

Some of the biggest ones, 50 cm in diameter, have since found their way to Wang’s home, in a big military compound in southern Beijing.

“Those are the last ones of their size, because trees that big are hard to find today. Unlike fine art, which may take quite some time before it grows on you, folk art elicits an immediate reaction and takes your breath away.”

Wang grew up in a border town between China and the former USSR, which she refers to as “a frozen land of immigrants”. Like her parents, the majority of residents settled as part of a government initiative in the 1950s to marshal its resources in the northeast.

There was little “indigenous art”, just giant portraits of State leaders, smiling broadly near the local train station. But a twist of events soon offered her a glimpse into a colorful, enchanted world.

“I was 5 when tension was rising between China and the former USSR, and the situation on the border became volatile,” Wang says. “We all had to move inland. For the first time, my parents took me to their hometown in Shandong.”

There were revolutionary posters there, but people ghd also decorated their windows with elaborate paper-cutting works, and ate moon cakes made from hand-cut wooden molds. Wang was given a pair of new shoes, with flower patterns embroidered on both sides.

But it was the sight of a newlywed woman, heading to her husband’s home that left the most indelible impression.

“She was wearing a red jacket and green trousers, and was carrying a small bundle folded in printed wrappers. As she moved further away there was only this red dot constantly dancing in and out of sight.”

That fiery red dot has stayed in Wang’s mind. Two years ago, when she and some friends opened a 150-sq-m space dedicated to folk art and furniture outside the Fifth Ring Road, in northeastern Beijing, Wang called the lifestyle boutique-cum-mini museum “Phoenix Charm” – as the phoenix is a powerful symbol for Chinese women.

The boutique has since expanded and was relocated to South Yuhui Road last November.

Sofas and chairs are upholstered in cloth, hand-dyed in a shade of indigo known simply as “Chinese blue”. Ferocious Peking Opera masks guard the wall, ghd straighteners their long, thick, hand-braided beards reaching to the ground.

Inside a space known as the “boudoir”, dim light emanates from a bedside lantern, with an intricately-carved leather shade. There is old furniture and elaborate wooden carvings.

“We Chinese used to live with art, and folk art is the most genuine, heart-melting form of poetry. It’s time we found our way back home,” Wang says.

“Before a child is born, a grandmother used to prepare hand-sewn shoes and embroidered them with tiger images. When the child was 1 year old, the family made flour cakes and dough figurines to celebrate,” Wang says.

“When art and life are so seamlessly merged, you don’t see the kind of pretension and cynicism that plagues contemporary art. Instead, you feel the richness of an ancient culture, and the raw power of life.”

Folk artists that Wang has visited over the years have invariably opened up and let her into their world. One of them is Ku Shulan,  MBT a near-mythical figure known as the “Goddess of Paper-Cutting”.

Wang paid a visit to her rundown earthen house in Shaanxi in 2002, two years before her death.

“Like all great artists, she seemed to be locked in her own creative mania. I didn’t really understand her dialect and before she picked up her scissors, everyone present had to go through this strange ritual where she recited a prayer.”

As a young lady, Ku fell off a cliff, by accident,  spent days in coma and later came around claiming to have been reborn as the “Goddess of Paper-Cutting”.

Wang approached all these artists with a humble heart and a pilgrim’s devotion.

“They may not have had halos on their heads, but these people were true masters,” she says.

One master embroiderer Wang met had a set of shoe patterns handed down to her by her great aunt, who used to do needlework for the royal court.

The patterns were probably drawn with a magnifying glass and were then hung on the wall in a mirror frame.

After much persuasion, the woman agreed to lend her family legacy to Wang, who took them to Beijng, enlarged them and sent them back with thread and silk cloth.

“I wanted to see the beautiful patterns coming ghd hair straighteners down from the wall and be sewn onto some child’s shoes. I want to see art alive.”

Hot News — Tags: , — admin @ 10:59 pm

Gap Inc. (GPS) posted fourth-quarter profit that jumped nearly 45%, topping analyst expectations, as the parent of Banana Republic and Old Navy enjoyed higher merchandise margins than the year-ago Mbt quarter. The San Francisco-based company reported a profitable a full year 2009 and said it will start to go after market share and sales growth in 2010, both in the U.S. and new markets abroad.

Despite its healthy results in the U.S. during the fourth quarter, management said it will focus its new-store activity Mbt shoes overseas, with new markets in Italy and China this fall. In the U.S., it will focus on remodeling stores to put in place its new prototype design, beginning with Old Navy’s locations.

For the fourth quarter, the company reported earnings of $352 million, up 44.9% from $243 million during the same period in 2008. Earnings per share 52 cents beat analysts’ estimates of 49 cents. For the full year, net income rose to $1.1 billion from $967 million in 2008, up 14% year-over-year.

For the full year, sales were down 3%; Gap was down 7%, Banana Republic dropped 9% and Old Navy’s comparable sales rose 4%.

Gap has been on an overhaul process for the last five years, trying to build up its three brands and set them apart from each other. The recession hit that effort hard, especially the flagship Gap brand, while the lower-priced Old Navy MBT Shoes remained popular with thrifty shoppers.

 Market-Share Focus

But now that the economy has begun to stabilize and the new corporate structures are in place, Gap Inc. will be focusing on market share, said ghd CEO Glenn Murphy.

Executives tried very hard to reassure analysts during a conference call that any efforts to expand stores or marketing won’t dilute profit growth. “The money only goes when there is a justifiable strategic MBT Shoe reason and can quantify the return,” said Murphy.

Gap’s forecast for 2010 calls for earnings of $1.70 to $1.75 per share, but the company did not give any forecast for sales. Gap will be spending more on marketing and product to expand inventory in early 2010 and sales. But executives said the company is determined to hold costs down and has worked with discount Mbt shoes vendors to keep the cost of goods low to protect profits.

Blog:Indian media hails ‘God’ Tendulkar

All-time great sends local press intoghd raptures with history-making ODI 200

NEW DELHI: Indian media lined up yesterday to shower the “God” Sachin Tendulkar with front-page tributes and predict the record-shattering batsman was not finished yet.

Tendulkar, who turns 37 in April, smashed the first-ever double century in one-day international cricket on Wednesday, pounding the South African bowlers with 25 boundaries and three sixes.

It was the latest achievement by the world’s most prolific batsman, who has scored more runs and centuries than anyone in both Test and one-day cricket.

Tendulkar’s landmark dominated the  ghd straighteners front pages of leading newspapers, even overshadowing the India-Pakistan diplomatic talks scheduled for Thursday.

“Immortal at 200″, screamed a banner headline in the Times of India, while the Indian Express ran a half-page photo of a celebrating Tendulkar with the word “God!”

A similar front-page photo in the Hindustan Times, headlined “200 not out”, was followed by a tribute from Tendulkar’s former teammate and bowling great Anil Kumble.

“The way he celebrated when he reached his 200 epitomised the man’s persona,” Kumble, an ex-India captain, wrote.

“There were no running laps around the field,  ghd hair straighteners no aggressive gestures, nothing over-the-top.

“He did what he always does. Raised both his arms, closed his eyes for a moment and quietly acknowledged it had been done.

“If the youngsters in the team can take even 10 percent of what he does, they will be better cricketers for it.”

The Times of India highlighted the ghd veteran’s scintillating form over the past 12 months, during which he has hit 10 international centuries, including six in Test cricket.

“Treasure this new, improved Tendulkar,” the paper said. “He is, by far, still India’s most valuable player and will remain so till he decides to call it quits.”

Tendulkar, who made his debut in 1989, has scored 13,447 runs with 47 hundreds in 166 Tests and 17,598 runs with 46 centuries in 442 one-day matches.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar rated  ghd hair straighteners Tendulkar over legendary Australian Don Bradman, saying the Mumbai man was the “greatest batsman the game has ever seen”.

Newspapers highlighted Australian spin legend Shane Warne’s tweets as he followed the knock of one of his close friends.

“Nervous for my good friend Sachin,” Warne posted as Tendulkar neared his double century. “Come on Sachin, my friend, get your 200. World record to please! You deserve it.”

Once achieved, Warne said: “Yes, yes,  ghd straighteners  yes! Well done Sachin my friend. Congrats and well done! Awesome.”

The Hindustan Times’ cricket correspondent wrote: “It’s never a good idea to try and speak for a whole nation. But on Wednesday it was a risk worth taking.

“To Sachin Tendulkar, on whom more words have been written than any other cricketer, including Sir Donald Bradman, two words will suffice: Thank you.” MBT shoes

Lady Gaga Teams Up Again With Giorgio Armani for Tour Costumes

Turns out the Giorgio Armani and Lady Gaga affair is no bad romance. The silver-haired designer first teamed up with the platinum-selling songstress when he conjured up some pretty wild sci-fi confections Mbt for her Jan. 31 appearance at the Grammys.

Now the peculiar pair is reuniting, this time to outfit Gaga in select costumes for her Monster Ball world tour discount Mbt shoes.

Judging by the designer’s sketches (above), the no-pants trend is alive and well — at least for Gaga. One look features a structured, royal blue sparkly bodysuit with padded, curved shoulders, while another — also a sparkly MBT Shoes bodysuit (naturally!) — has a “lobster effect” on one sleeve.

While we prefer our lobster on a dinner plate, we think Gaga’s crustacean rendition actually turned out quite glamorous under Armani’s deft hand.

Other custom Armani costumes set to hit the stage include a geometric mini dress with mirror detailing MBT Shoe (to go with her disco stick?), as well as a dramatic floor-length black patent trench.

And in a nice touch for a girl on the go, the designer has completed each stage ensemble with specially made matching shoes and sunglasses.

With Gaga making pit stops in Europe (the Monster Ball tour kicked off in the UK on Feb. 18) and Asia, Armani’s stage mbt sale designs will surely be getting worldwide coverage, but could those custom outfits also be a labor of love for the pop star’s music?

“We hear Lady Gaga’s music everywhere we go, it is like a soundtrack of our times,” the 75-year old design Mbt legend said in a statement. “In addition to her formidable songwriting skills, she is a modern fashion phenomenon.”

We don’t know how many modern fashionistas sport two-tone locks crafted into a telephone hairpiece, but we’ll take Armani’s word ghd for it!

Blog:Aruba prosecutor: TV confession in Holloway case ‘not true’

Hot News — Tags: , , — admin @ 10:00 pm

A Dutch man once considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway has told a television station he dumped her body in a swamp, Aruba’s chief prosecutor told CNN,Mbt .

However, Joran van der Sloot’s claims to Dutch station RTL-5 are “unbelievable,” prosecutor Peter Blanken said.

RTL-5 said Tuesday it had “acquired exclusive material containing a statement by Joran van der Sloot” regarding Holloway’s disappearance.

“This material was first offered to us in 2009,” Remko van Westerloo, the station’s director of programming, said in a statement.

“Obviously, our initial response was skeptical,” van Westerloo said. “However, we did feel that this interview required Mbt shoes thorough research. We’ve spoken to a variety of experts and several critics. These findings resulted in a TV special which will air this Sunday. It’s up to the viewers to form their own opinions on the matter.”

The statement did not divulge the contents of van der Sloot’s interview. However, Blanken told CNN on Tuesday that van der Sloot says in the interview that he dumped Holloway’s body “in a swamp on the north end of the island.”

“He was very unspecific,” Blanken said.

Blanken said RTL contacted him about the interview last summer, and the station showed the interview to him to get his reaction. He said his office and Aruban police investigated.

“We tried to verify it,” Blanken said. “It couldn’t be true. We talked with several witnesses and reviewed several facts. The story is unbelievable and not true, in my opinion.”

He said his office told van der Sloot “we’d like him to come in and speak with us about it. He failed to respond mbt sale.”

Asked why van der Sloot gave the interview, Blanken said, “You should ask him. Maybe he wanted to be on camera or make some money.”

Holloway was 18 when last seen in the early hours of May 30, 2005, leaving an Oranjestad, Aruba, nightclub with van der Sloot and two other men, brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. She was visiting Aruba with about 100 classmates discount Mbt shoes celebrating their graduation from Mountain Brook High School in suburban Birmingham, Alabama.

Holloway failed to show up for her flight home the following day, and her packed bags were found in her hotel room.

Van der Sloot and the Kalpoes were arrested and released in 2005 in connection with the case. In 2007, they were arrested a second time after Aruba’s then-chief prosecutor, Hans Mos, said he had received new evidence in the case.

Van der Sloot, who was attending college in the Netherlands, was brought back to Aruba. But judges ruled the new  MBT Shoe evidence — which included an Internet chat the same day Holloway disappeared with one of the three youths saying she was dead — was not enough to keep them jailed.

In 2008, prosecutors sought unsuccessfully to arrest van der Sloot a third time after a videotape surfaced on Dutch television. In it, van der Sloot tells a man he considered to be his friend that he had sex with Holloway on the beach after leaving the nightclub, then she “started shaking” and lost consciousness. He said he panicked when he could not resuscitate her and called a friend who had a boat. The two put Holloway’s body in the boat, he said, and then he went home. The friend told him the next day that he had carried the body out and dumped it in the ocean.

“I didn’t lose a minute of sleep over it,” van der Sloot said on the tape.

Holloway’s mother, Beth Twitty, told ABC at the time that the video showed van der Sloot was “not innocent.”

But an Aruba court ruled there was not enough evidence to re-arrest him. Aruban prosecutors said authorities had met with van der Sloot in the Netherlands, but in a two-hour interview he denied any role in Holloway’s disappearance.

Van der Sloot acknowledged to a Dutch television program he made the comments, but said he was lying. “That is what he wanted to hear, so I told him what he wanted to hear,” he said.

“When [van der Sloot] really wants to tell the truth, [we hope] he will,” said Blanken, who took over as chief prosecutor in September. “He didn’t tell the truth.
